IFT and SciFi

The International Federation of Trekkers (IFT)
IFT is a Star Trek fan organization devoted to 'Living the Dream' started by Gene Roddenberry

The purpose of IFT: "To promote the humanistic philosophies and ideals
portrayed in the Star Trek myths in a realistic fashion conducive to the continued
existence and responsible advancement of human kind. To provide, promote, and
support education and positive legal activism in the area of human rights, racial
and sexual equality, environmental causes, and space exploration. To promote a
more positive impression of Star Trek enthusiasts as intelligent, socially
conscious, active individuals who are aware and concerned about the real world
today."

The EXCELSIOR Campaign is a fan-based, fan-run, and fan-organized campaign designed to mandate the production of
a television series about the adventures of Captain Hikaru Sulu and the crew of the USS EXCELSIOR.

Captain Sulu was first seen in command of EXCELSIOR in 1991 in the feature film "STAR TREK VI: The Undiscovered
Country," and was an immediate fan favorite. Although we got only one more glimpse of this ship and crew during a
flashback episode of "VOYAGER", it was nice to see.

The media has been reporting regularly on the death of Star Trek. We, the fans of the legacy built by Gene
Roddenberry, refuse to let those reports come to fruition. In recent years, Roddenberry's dream may have been bent,
spindled and twisted in all directions, but one thing is clear: with fan support, Star Trek is no where near death.

The fans who make up the EXCELSIOR Campaign are bound together by their love for the phenomenon that IS Star
Trek. This unique look into the future; a future of hope and exploration, a future without bigotry, greed or hunger; is
one that attracts millions. You don't have to be a fan of Star Trek to be drawn to thoughts of a future like that.

With the reported death of Star Trek looming nigh, we fans of the STAR TREK mythos feel that it is time to bring new life
to Star Trek by taking it back to its roots. At this time, Paramount studios have turned down all three ideas for new Trek
incarnations to take the place of "VOYAGER" when it ceases production next year. They have also turned down the lone
idea for a new motion picture and have officially put Trek film production on their "back burner". With this news in sight,
the reporters have a very good basis for their assumption of the death of Trek.

The EXCELSIOR Campaign is one geared to convince Paramount that Star Trek is quite alive through subtle pressure and
by sheer numbers. The pressure comes in media events around the world in support of this campaign. The sheer
numbers come into play as we flood their offices and the offices of their affiliates with thousands of letters. Unlike other
letter writing campaigns that invite you to write "whenever", this letter campaign is designed to overwhelm Paramount on
all fronts with numbers of letters that will be hard to ignore. We will do that by all writing at once in a scheduled in
structured campaign.

But letter writing is just the beginning of this campaign. Letters do some good, but could never deliver the winning salvo
of photon torpedoes. Also planned are ads in Variety and other trade mags, peaceful public "displays" (demonstrations
just sounds so disruptive), and more.

To make this campaign a success, we must show Paramount that we have thousands of fans involved, and each of those
thousands of fans need to play their part. You see, Paramount is in the business of making money. Some people
invest in stocks. Paramount invests in production projects. The people who buy stocks expect to see a good return on
their investment. We must show Paramount that they will receive a good return on an investment in EXCELSIOR. To do
that, thousands (in fact, tens of thousands) of Star Trek fans must work together to show our numbers and what we
want.

campaign and more.

Most of all, the fans of this campaign make up a fine team. Ideas, questions and suggestions are always welcome. You
can post them to the message board or e-mail them to Campaign HQ at the link below.

This is a campaign that we can AND WILL win. EXCELSIOR!
